Discover the fabulous history of chocolate by following the tour of the chocolate workshop in Bayonne. Go and conquer the rainforest and the cocoa culture of the cocoa producing countries. A fun and learning experience about the profession of the master chocolatier.
Every morning, the chocolatiers make their specialities in front of the visitors. Through the windows overlooking the production laboratories, you can watch them at work. Educational posters and animated screens accompany the visits, revealing all the details of each stage of production.
Imagine how cocoa beans were transformed 100 years ago as you discover a complete line of vintage chocolate-making machines.
Between legend and history, you will relive the myth of Quetzalcoalt, the discovery of cocoa and the arrival of chocolate in Europe, or how the Jews, masters of the art of chocolate making, and expelled from Spain by the Inquisition, made Bayonne the first chocolate-making city in France.
In the projection room, watch an instructive film on the actual production of cocoa and its transformation into chocolate.
While the grown-ups will taste the chocolates from the 4 corners of the world, the little apprentice chefs will paint chocolate fish which they will proudly take home with them.
In its workshop-shop in the heart of the "Petit Bayonne", Monsieur Txokola produces his own chocolate from carefully selected raw cocoa beans. He uses French products and local artisanal techniquesto create his fine and flavourful chocolate bars, spreads and cocoa powder.
Entering his boutique is a journey in itself. Behind its large windows, you can observe the different stages of production and discover all the know-how and experience of the Bayonne master chocolatier.
At Monsieur Chocolat, it is not so much about productivity but love for the product.
