The heart of old Bayonne offers pedestrian shopping streets bustling all year round. Here you can discover French and local Basque gourmet specialties: ham, chocolate, cheese, cold meats and more, and craft products such as Basque linen, Makila (traditional Basque walking sticks) and espadrilles. You can also find a wide choice of shops selling clothes, leather goods, books, jewellery, which usually open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm.
Situated in the town centre, Bayonne's enticing covered market, les Halles, is open every morning selling all local produce. On Saturday mornings local producers and clothing traders gather here for a vast open-air market.
Make your shopping stress-free by using one of the many car parks with free bus transfer to the town centre. Stops are every 200m and buses run every 8 min from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm every day except Sundays and public holidays.
You can also cycle to the shops on one of the free bicycles available from any of the town's covered car parks.
